Our elective programme welcomes students from the UK. We have the capacity for 4 students at a time, for 4 weeks at a time during specified dates. You will be based in Norwich and the working hours are 9am – 5pm although we ask you to be flexible as some longer days may be involved.
The elective will involve you undertaking a specific audit as set by the Medical Director. This may involve you working independently or as part of a group project with the other students on your placement. You will mainly be classroom based but you will be involved in clinical training and debriefing sessions with the duty crew.
You will be expected to present your audit at our Clinical Governance Day directly following your placement. This is held in Newmarket so you will need to be able to make your own way there and back.
Please note that a flying shift on the Air Ambulance is not guaranteed, nor is direct patient contact.
You will also be given an insight into the Charity and what is involved to keep the operation running.
Please note the electives are for medical students only.

You must send the requested items above to EAAA in a timely manner. Failure to do so may result in your space being given to another student.
Although this is extremely rare, EAAA reserves the right to cancel your elective at any stage.
If you do not adhere to the standards and behaviours set by EAAA you may be asked to leave the elective at any stage and your University will be informed.
What you will need to arrange
The placement will be based at either our Norwich or Cambridge base, although travel to other sites may be required. It is essential you have your own transport because the Norwich base can be difficult to reach by public transport. There is free parking directly outside the hangar.
You will need to arrange your own accommodation and this will be at your own expense. You will be expected at the Norwich base Monday to Friday with weekends off. The full address of Head Office is:
East Anglian Air Ambulance
You will be given a desk space but you must bring your own laptop and anything else you may need to enable you to work.
There may be a chance for an observer shift while you are with us although we cannot guarantee it. Should the opportunity arise please ensure you are prepared and have a good, clean pair of boots with you as well as cotton clothing to wear underneath your flight suit. Flight suit and a helmet will be provided by EAAA. You will not need to bring these with you everyday but it is something to be mindful of if you need to pack for a few weeks.
