Passionate about flying the flag for women in Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), Dr Rachel says that EAAA is an innovative, educative and very supportive service, and is the perfect start to her career in pre-hospital emergency medicine.
As part of the Anglia Two (Cambridge) critical care team, Rachel attends some of the most seriously ill and unwell people in our region, by air and road, in a wide range of environments and locations, 24 hours a day. She is humbled to be able to carry out this role to help people in some of their most difficult moments.
She says, “The variety of work is so inspiring. We see people of all ages, in their homes, in public places, having suffered trauma or a medical emergency. I am in awe of how resilient the patients are in their worst moments and I feel very privileged to help them through that.”
Rachel acknowledges the incredible support from people in the community who continue to go above and beyond to fundraise, volunteer their time, take part in events and be an ambassador for EAAA: “We absolutely cannot deliver the care to our patients without you. You, the supporters, are this service and make everything possible. Every patient, every job, every moment of Aftercare support is down to you. So, thank you!”
Outside of EAAA, Rachel is Mum to two girls, aged 8yrs and 5yrs, and has also previously tread the boards as an ex-musical theatre performer!
