Dr Kate joined EAAA in August 2023 as part of the latest cohort of Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) trainees. She works out of Helimed House as part of the Anglia One (Norwich) critical care team. In addition to her background in Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, Kate also has a background in medical education and simulation.
Alongside her EAAA colleagues, Dr Kate attends people experiencing a wide range of medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrests and trauma injuries as a result of road traffic collisions, for example. As one of the charity’s specialist clinicians, she brings the advanced skills, equipment and medicine – normally only found in a specialist emergency department – to the patient’s side, via air or road, in the fastest time possible .
Kate says: “I’ve been working towards a career in Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for the last ten years. HEMS offers the unique challenge of delivering critical care in high intensity and often extremely tough environments. This is all made possible by working within an incredibly dedicated and talented team. Our ability to make what can seem like someone’s worst day a little better for them and their family is an enormous privilege.”
