East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) has launched a brand new 24 mile or 24K trek challenge as part of its campaign to become a 24/7 service and is encouraging people who are ready to take on a challenge to sign up.
The event, which is called Trek 24, is to be held in North Norfolk and will take place on Sunday 8th September during National Air Ambulance Week. Groups and individual participants will have two exciting challenges to choose from:
- A 24 mile route starting south of West Runton and ending at Holkham Hall
- A 24k route starting in Cley and ending at Holkham Hall
For participants taking part in the 24km route, early bird tickets cost £20 with a minimum sponsorship requirement of £200. For participants taking part in the 24 mile route, early bird tickets cost £25 with a minimum sponsorship requirement of £250.
Trekkers will receive a packed lunch, refreshments on route, a glass of bubbly (or soft drink alternative) and a hot meal at the finish line, as well as a medal to celebrate the completion of the challenge.
There will be seven ‘uplift stations’ along the way with refreshment stops and cheering squads to keeping trekkers refueled and motivated. Early bird tickets will be available until midnight Sunday 2nd June and are sold on a first come first served basis.
Catrina Miller, Events Manager at East Anglian Air Ambulance, said: “We are delighted to officially launch our brand new event Trek 24 in support of our campaign to become a 24/7 service.
Currently our operation runs from 7am until midnight, meaning there is a 7 hour gap in air ambulance coverage in the East of England. By extending our flying hours round the clock, we estimate that we could be there for up to 600 more patients every year.”
To become a 24/7 service we do however need to raise an additional £1m a year and we have launched Trek 24 to help us work towards achieving this annual target. Whether you want to support our 24/7 mission or just take part in a challenging and fun event, we can guarantee it will be one not to miss!”
