Swimming the English Channel in aid of EAAA

19 October 2019

In July Ruth Moate, Assistant Management Accountant at Bertram Group, embarked on a challenge: to swim the English Channel in her local pool at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Norwich.

Ruth wanted to do something which would not only help her to get fitter but raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance - Bertram Group’s charity of the year in 2019 – because as she says, “they do an amazing job helping those who need them”.

Ruth explains: “As going up and down the lanes can be a bit boring, I set myself a fun challenge. I chose to swim the English Channel, a distance of 35 km which is approximately 21 miles. I gave myself 100 days to complete it in and asked for sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues for my efforts.”

Ruth smashed her challenge in an impressive 66 days, 17 hours and 17 minutes! This included 21 trips to the pool and in total she swam 1,411 lengths.

Ruth is now considering her next challenge and how she can continue her personal fitness journey.

A huge thank you to Ruth, and the Bertram Group for their continued support to East Anglian Air Ambualnce.
