This is used by Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Anaesthetics and Pre-hospital specialist to add valuable information to a clinical assessment.
Clinical Education
The East Anglian Air Ambulance Academy of Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) provides an academic platform from which our doctors and critical care paramedics can share their expert and specialist Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine experience and knowledge with others.
The Academy’s vision
We strive to improve understanding and skillset in the field of PHEM on both a national and international level.
Building on the existing work of our Research, Audit, Innovation and Development Group, the EAAA Academy of Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine works collaboratively and in partnership. It delivers education to national and international clinicians – while continuing to pioneer advances and reach the highest possible standards of excellence in out-of-hospital critical care and education.

The Advanced Life Support, Point of Care Ultrasound and Specialist Endovascular Access in Resuscitation courses are examples of EAAA leading the way nationally and internationally with teaching advanced skills that contribute to improving the outcome of patients we treat and improving expertise beyond clinicians who work with EAAA, such as ambulance and hospital-based clinicians.
Our courses:
Specialist Percutaneous Emergency Aortic Resuscitation (SPEAR)
This is an intervention performed on some cardiac arrest patients. It involves inserting a needle into the patient’s arteries in the groin to measure blood pressure beat by beat.
Resuscitation Excellence and Critical Care Training (REACT)
This training is aimed at experienced clinicians from Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Anaesthetics and Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine, with support from The ATACC Group.
Post Graduate Certificate
Delivered by EAAA in partnership with the University of East Anglia (UEA), we are proud to work in collaboration on a Post Graduation Certificate specialising in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine to ensure a high quality, contemporary, clinically focused learning experience for practitioners working in the pre-hospital setting.
This post-graduate academic learning aims to bring pre-hospital clinicians up to a higher level of skills and knowledge.
The Certificate consists of two modules to equip healthcare professionals with foundational knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary for a career in advanced PHEM.
The modules include elements such as austere environments, special circumstances, governance and medicines management and aims to develop understanding and capacity to deliver out-of-hospital critical care.
