Alongside Emeritus Doctor Mark’s role with EAAA, and Anaesthesia and ICU role within the NHS, Mark is a Medical Examiner, a lifelong volunteer with St John Ambulance and has volunteered with LIVES (his local BASICS scheme) for the best part of a decade.
As part of the EAAA critical care team, Dr Mark bring enhanced care, skills, medication and equipment directly to the side of patients when they need it most. He has always been passionate about pre-hospital care and believes very strongly that everyone is entitled to high quality care no matter what time or where they have their incident. He says: “Being a member of the EAAA team means that I can help to make that care happen.”
Dr Mark’s interests and specialisms includes pre-hospital emergency anaesthesia, critical care transfers, management of cardiac arrests and training his peers. He adds: “I have been lucky enough to help revamp the charity’s pre-hospital emergency anaesthetic standard operating procedure with some cutting edge interventions based on local research, as well as being given the opportunity to both teach on and course direct EAAA Advanced Life Support courses.”
He says he loves being trained, governed and empowered to deliver world leading pre-hospital care to patients, while working alongside some “true giants” of both aviation and medicine.
“It’s a huge privilege to work within this sector and see the impact that great quality care can have on a patient and their loved ones. The donors, fundraisers and supporters are the most amazing people – without them, we simply couldn’t do what we do out in the community. Every single life that’s saved or patient whose pre-hospital journey is made easier belongs to those people as much as it does to the crew on the ground. They should all be immensely proud of what we achieve together.”
A fun fact about Dr Mark: “I’m mad keen on all things Lego – so much so that our house has a dedicated ‘Lego Room’ and I’ve got a couple of very cool Lego themed tattoos!”
