Dr Kate Lachowycz is our Head of Research, Audit, Innovation & Development. She oversees the charity’s research and audit portfolio, using her background in epidemiology, statistics and data analysis to help strengthen and shape the future of pre‑hospital care. Her work centres on turning real‑world data into insights that improve outcomes for patients across East Anglia and beyond.
Kate studied at the University of Cambridge, completed an MSc at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and earned her PhD from the University of East Anglia, where she explored the health benefits of green space. Before joining East Anglian Air Ambulance, she worked across the NHS and academia on public health and health inequalities research, giving her a broad, joined‑up understanding of how different parts of the system shape patient care. When she’s not immersed in data, Kate can usually be found on the Norfolk coast, where she lives on a clifftop and enjoys wild swimming and paddleboarding in all weathers.
Sudden out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is the most common mission for East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA). Around one in five of our cardiac arrest patients survive, but across the country the rate of survival is below 10% - this condition needs new treatments to help improve survival rates.
East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) has launched a feasibility study to assess whether performing a minimally invasive blood test at scene for patients with a suspected head injury can help determine if they are suffering from bleeding in the brain.
