East Anglian Air Ambulance, a charity that provides 24/7 lifesaving critical care by air and road, has welcomed the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Papworth Hospital to their board of trustees. Eilish Midlane was formally appointed in December 2025 and brings extensive expertise and insight to the charity.
Eilish is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Royal Papworth Hospital, a role that she took up in September 2022, having previously been Chief Operating Officer for five years. She trained in her native Ireland as a biomedical scientist (a sub-group of healthcare scientists) and practised for many years before moving from pathology to general hospital management in 2008. She holds a wealth of experience spanning strategy, operational leadership and delivery, and hospital and clinical services reconfiguration. Eilish also brings with her considerable expertise in patient safety, clinical governance and service improvement planning.
East Anglian Air Ambulance is a charity providing lifesaving critical care every day of the year across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Whether by air or road, they bring hospital-level care to the most seriously ill and injured people in our region. From blood transfusions and pain relief to anaesthesia and emergency surgery, their specialist doctors and paramedics give patients the best chance of survival and recovery. Additionally, the charity also offers vital aftercare, trains people in lifesaving skills, and carries out clinical research to keep improving care.
Eilish says, “I am incredibly proud to have been selected to be a trustee for East Anglian Air Ambulance. My teams at Royal Papworth deliver care at the extreme end of the clinical care for patients with heart and lung conditions, and I am in awe that our East Anglian Air Ambulance clinical teams deliver high level critical care at the incident scene. My hope is that I will be able to make a meaningful contribution to East Anglian Air Ambulance going from strength to strength moving forward.”
Matthew Jones, East Anglian Air Ambulance Chief Executive, said, “We are delighted to welcome Eilish to our board of trustees. Her experience and expertise within the NHS will bring invaluable insights that will support our governance, strengthen our strategic direction, help us to deepen our partnerships with NHS Trusts within the region and ultimately ensure that people in a life-threatening situation in our region receive the very best care when the very worst happens.”
